Hem Your Own Jeans
Welcome to our FIRST EVER sewing project here on She Made it! I am not a great sewer, although I ASPIRE to be a great sewer! Not something I am super confident at, but I am getting better little by little!
I always take my jeans in to get hemmed, and I have had a pair FOREVER that have needed to be hemmed. Love the way they fit, WAY too long in the length! It was date night and I wanted to wear them out, but no time to take them to the tailor.
So….I decided to do it myself! I got on Youtube and watched a couple tutorials and SURPRISE! It isn’t hard at all!Pin It
First figure out how long you want your jeans to be.
Draw a line where you would like the hem to be.
Use a ruler to make that mark into a line across the entire leg.
Then chalk a line an inch below your hem line. This gives you the material to roll and sew.
Here is what my pant legs look like with both lines chalked on them.
Cut off pants at the lower line.
Use your scissors to trim 1/2 inch off the seam on the inside leg of jeans.
This removes some of the bulk so you get a nice clean hem.
This is what it should look like when you are done.
Then do a 1/2 inch fold at bottom of jeans.
Use trimmed seam as guide.
Then roll another 1/2 inch. Do this all around the opening.
P
Pin and iron.
Your roll should match up with your chalked hem line.
Then SEW!
Very easy, the hardest part was rolling the hem. Now I don’t have to pay anyone to do this anymore! Yeah for me!
The finished product!
I know different outfit, different hair, just trying to figure out what to wear on my HOT date!
This of course wasn’t the final choice, the shoes definitely don’t match the shirt!
